Hi everyone!
Lately, I've noticed the round beach towel trend, and I think they are really pretty.
Also, I've been seing pom-poms everywhere, on summer accessorizes.
I decided to create my own round beach towel, decorated with pom-poms, and if you like it, here are all the steps of its creation.
What you will need:
- 2 pieces of fabric, at least 65x130cm, about 26x52 inches big.
- a pencil
- fabric cisors
- measuring tape
- pins
- a sewing machine
- wool
- beads (optional)
- a needle
- an iron
Let's begin!
Lay your fabric on a table. Use your measuring tape as a compass, it will be the radius of your half-circle. Keep one end of the measuring tape at the same point, while moving the other end, as written on the photo. |
Using a pencil, make markings at 65cm (26 inches). Then, connect them, to create a half-circle. Repeat the same process with another piece of fabric.
With your sewing machine: first, sew around your half-circles in zig-zag stitch, to avoid the fraying. |
Then sew a line in straight stitch, about 1cm (0.40 inches) away from the edge of each half-circle (this is optional). |
Pin your half-cirlces to each other, right sides together. Sew along the needles. |
When it's done, turn the towel around, and iron it in the middle to flatten the seam. |
Time for the pom-poms! Cut a piece of cardboard, from the length that you want your pom-poms to be. Cut a notch at the top. |
Then, stick the wool in the snick, and wrap it around the cardboard. The more you wrap, the more the pom-pom will be dense. |
Cut a small piece of wool, and pass it between the cardboard and the wool. Tie a knot at the top of the pom-pom, as you can see on the picture. |
Take the pom-pom out of the cardboard. Cut a piece of wool again, and place it at one third at the top of the pom-pom, and tie a knot. Cut the bottom of the loops. |
Here is the final result!
You can also cut only one circle in the same fabric, it'll be easier.
If you add beads, be carefull with the washing machine. Tie many knots to make sure that the beads don't come off.
I hope that you've enjoyed this article, and that you didn't have trouble to understand the steps. Don't forget to tell me if you have reproduced this DIY!
