DIY: Modern earrings

DIY Modern earrings

For my mother's birthday, I drew a few different models of earrings, from which she could choose one that I would make for her.
The pair that I'm showing you today, is one of those, which she hadn't chosen, but was my personal favorite. Thus, I decided to make them for myself.
These earrings are very modern, geometric and I like the gold foil a lot because it adds light and chic.
At the beginning, I wanted them to be hanging earrings, but while doing this DIY I found these clip clasps which I thought were perfect.

Here are this DIY's steps if you're interested.

You will need:

  1. Polymer clays of the colours of your choice (I use FIMO in the colours 37 and 0)
  2. A roller
  3. A rigid blade
  4. A clamp or tweezers
  5. Clasps of your choice
  6. Liquid glue
  7. Gold foil

Start by cutting two pieces of the polymer clays that you chose, and knead them with your fingers to soften them.

Make a ball with the blue clay, and cut it in 4 with the rigid blade. Same for the white clay. Spread each ball lengthwise using the roller. Stack them on top of each other by alternating the colours.
Using the rigid blade, cut thin strips of clay lengthwise as shown on the picture. Make more strips than needed in order to be able to choose the best ones afterwards.

After you cut the edges of the clay, using a clamp, take small pieces of gold foil and place them onto the earring as you like. Flatten with your finger.

Now, bake them in the oven as indicated on the packaging of your polymer clay. FIMO is backed 30 min at 110°C (230°F). Then, let them cool down.

Make a drop of glue on the surface of your clip clasp, and lay the earring onto it.

Turn  the  earrings  around  and  let  them  dry  for  at  least  2  hours.

Here is the result!

The fact that the earring isn't moving and is starting at the middle of the earlobe, gives a very geometric look that I love! If you like that, be sure to reproduce them, this DIY is super easy and is really worth it!
So, what do you think of it?
